Thousands of people experience one form of injury at some point in their lives and the battle to recovery becomes an uphill task.

I was also once in the same position some years back and understand how difficult it can be to live with the pain day in day out!

I had a severe ankle injury from a bad fall during a walk in the neighborhood due to the uneven roadway pavement with the exposed curb in a construction work area.

At first, I thought it would go away with a bit of massage and ice pack.

As it were, my ankle rolled over when I lost balance and fell… I could not even finish the walk.

However, it was beyond what I thought and the pain was excruciating.

Off I went to the hospital emergency room for a proper check.

I had an x-ray done and the doctor confirmed that I had a hairline fracture.

This left me wearing a big boot for several weeks and it was not a pleasant experience.

Next was the physical therapy sessions to get my ankle back in shape and I made sure I never missed any session.

Getting my knee back was a top priority!

Weeks passed but the ankle was not completely back.

I had an underlying issue of posture misalignment that was not addressed and this delayed my healing process.

My healing journey began with the Egoscue certified therapist who was able to assess my body posture and start addressing the underlying issues I had.

I learned that there was a need for me to understand fully, how the body functions and uses compensating muscles to move the body in a very non-efficient way. I was putting stress on my joints unknowingly.

So many people suffering from injury-induced pain do not know this too.

Over a period of time, small misalignments result in aches and pains.

If you don’t do something about it the pain stays with you and reduces your quality of life.

It is a realistic goal to remain pain-free and become more conscious of the body as you move through the day and this became my number one goal.

Being my own advocate to bring my body to balance has been crucial. It helped me to ask questions and work with the therapist to learn about the Egoscue Method and my body.

It’s been 5 amazing years and I’m still learning!
