Do you spend time setting yourself up for a healthy and successful year when January comes around, but haven’t been able to follow through in years past? Whether you are trying to start a new fitness routine, eat a little healthier, develop a daily routine that is better for you, or work on personal development, those lifestyle changes might not stick without the right preparation. Here are some helpful tips for choosing the right changes, and sticking to those healthy lifestyle changes in the new year!

Tips for Sticking to Your Healthy Lifestyle Changes in 2023:
Make One Healthy Change at a Time
For healthy lifestyle changes that stick, it isn’t about reinventing the wheel. Instead, choose just one healthy habit to change at a time. One of the biggest mistakes we see when it comes to lifestyle changes is trying to stack 5 or 10 or more habits on top of one another, all at the same time. It is great to want to make healthy changes in your life, but you can’t do everything at once.
Don’t Be Too Restrictive
Whether you are eating a healthier diet or trying to add more exercise to your day, you don’t want to be too restrictive or too strenuous. For workouts, add more exercises to your routine gradually. Don’t start on day one with a 60-minute workout meant for someone advanced in kickboxing, if you have never done a kickboxing class in your life. You need to work up to it.
The same goes for your diet. Wanting to eat a more nutrient-dense diet is a great idea for having a healthy lifestyle, but not if it means cutting out all your favorite foods.
Set Some Small, Achievable Goals
Write down how you want to incorporate new healthy lifestyle habits and be detailed in what those habits are. You can then set some small and realistic goals related to those habits. Maybe your goal is to drink more water, so you can write down how many ounces you drink a day and aim for a goal of a certain number of ounces for a month. This helps you to have a small goal and a small habit that work seamlessly together.
Find Your Own Motivation
What motivates you the most when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle? Don’t worry about what it is, there are no wrong answers here. Some people are motivated by success and other people’s attention, while others are motivated by aesthetic goals, feeling better, improving their health markers, or being a good inspiration for their kids. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you are truthful about why you are making these changes.
